Tuba City UMTRA Project

S&K Aerospace, LLC is contracted to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Environmental Management to perform site characterization, remediation oversight, document review, and independent verification of cleanup of a property containing residual radioactive material as a result of being near the former Tuba City, Arizona, uranium-ore processing mill. This property is known as the Highway 160 Site.

The Highway 160 Site encompasses about 16 acres of grazing land and nearby residences located northeast of the former millsite on the Navajo Reservation. Through a cooperative agreement with the Navajo Nation, DOE allocated $4.5 million of $5 million through the Fiscal Year 2009 Omnibus Appropriations Act to the Navajo Nation Environmental Protection Agency (NNEPA) to perform the site remediation.

Removal of the contaminated material began in June 2011 and was completed in August. S&K Aerospace performed characterization of the site and assessed surrounding residential structures, and is performing independent verification of the cleanup and will assist in the preparation of the completion report, as requested through NNEPA. The project is anticipated to be closed out by the end of December 2011.

S&K Aerospace teamed with Pro2Serve and the work was executed by the S&K Aerospace Environmental Division located in Grand Junction, Colorado, and Moab, Utah.
